View Full Version : user-created room names?

Are user-created room names moderated in any way? There's a room called "childporn" and while I hope this is someone's idea of "humour", it's quite disturbing. I get it "cyber"-themed rooms are tolerated, but...
yeah I agree there's some pretty creepy people out there...some things just aren't amusing :S
There used to always be a UC room called "Incest" too....
As far as I am aware admins pretty much leave UC rooms alone..enter at your own peril, so to speak.
May I hijack this thread and ask about offensive usernames(i.e. racist names, paedophilic names etc)..are these to be tolerated or are they votable in normal isketch rooms?

I guess UC room names could be moderated but they aren't because as elfy said the admins leave them alone. There is an option to block potentially offensive room names in settings, not sure if it would get "childporn" though.
For usernames... I'm pretty sure I've seen admins say that you can't vote on them just because of their name 'cause it says in the rules offensive language is only an offence if it's directed at other players. Mostly you don't need to wait long for people with those kinds of names to give you an excuse to vote them anyway...

On usernames, we were told in the PITA thread (http://www.isketchforum.net/types-pita-no-t1958p3.html) that you can vote on offensive names if you like, but admin won't kick for it (and apparently the user you voted is allowed to vote you back as well :s )

User-created rooms are designed to have operators so there is no admin interaction. The name of the room can be whatever the room's creator wishes it to be, although to be honest, if you do not like the room, simply avoid it and/or make another if desired. I agree with the elf on this, with any user-created room you are entering at your own risk. Come play Sci with me instead cheezy ;)

From what nh hs linked for us, if you find a username offensive, I would say you are allowed to vote against them. It's best to use the most appropriate vote in this case which is "Other reason". Like gt said, I've seen people with strange names out there, usually they play up and get kicked by an admin, but occasionally they do behave themselves ;)

Similarly, on the lines of usernames and things like that....
I recently encountered someone who had a rather provocative quote as well as an avatar that showed a barechested woman. I didn't do anything about it, but it was in one of the normal rooms. I asked an Admin about it and they said to just vote them with "Other Reason" and an Admin would follow up on it.

I would say that if an admin has said that votes against other people's profiles are allowed, then I would agree with them. Some things about iSketch can be taken as a joke, but if you are offended by a player, then vote to kick them out.

If you have ever applied to be an admin, you will know that it is okay for a player to vote for an offensive username, although an admin can not do anything about it. Here is a quote from the email you receive after your application (direct from iSketch - presumably Rob)
"There may be aspects of the job that could involve setting aside your personal values (i.e., admins may not kick for "offensive" names and swearing) because it is not iSketch's concern to change people's convictions. This matter is usually deferred to the players themselves, with the BOOT function"
Well actually, I DID apply to be an admin a longg time ago, but I never recieved a reply of any description.
Don't blame them to be honest :P
