Well there is a BIG lack of transfer activity at the moment.
I wouldn't want to be a betting man just yet because I expect a domino effect of signings once the real big summer move happens.
So, I don't wish to look stupid yet by saying.
I'll leave that for these guys (http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii224/jsinghd/aeszoo.gif)

El_Nino, tell Max (of Max and Paddy/Phoenix Nights fame) to come and get Gareth 'Whingebag' Barry off us as soon as possible, as it's dragging on too long. I'll accept a deal of £15m, plus a decent player (Voronin is NOT quality) and some shell suits, or we sell him to Arsenal
Villa's season starts next weekend, we got an Intertoto Cup match which could qualify us for UEFA Cup (European football?? at Villa Park?? w00t!). Looking forward to the season to see if we can improve on last season's finish (plus we get to play local rivals West Brom  ).

Arshavin Eyes Arsenal Move Sat 12 Jul, 11:09 AM
Andrei Arshavin (http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/football/andrei-arshavin.html)'s agent claims the Russian star is "desperate" to join Arsenal (http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/football/arsenal/).
The Zenit St Petersburg playmaker is expected to leave his current club before the close of the transfer window.
He has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona after admitting the Spanish giants are his "dream" club.
But Barca's bid for the player fell well short of Zenit's valuation, while Arshavin's representative Dennis Lachter has claimed an unnamed English club have offered £19million.
Lachter says Zenit want £24million for the 27-year-old, who has been linked with Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea (http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/football/chelsea/).
The player's agent, though, has suggested that Arshavin would welcome the opportunity to move to Emirates Stadium.
"Andrei is desperate to join Arsenal," said Lachter in the Daily Mirror.
"His style of play would suit them perfectly."
Arsenal have already completed the signing of French playmaker Samir Nasri (http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/football/samir-nasri.html) from Marseille, but are set to lose Alexander Hleb (http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/football/alexander-hleb.html) to Barcelona.

Premier League - Arshavin wants Arsenal move
Eurosport - Mon, 14 Jul 10:52:00 2008
Andrei Arshavin (http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/football/andrei-arshavin.html)'s agent has revealed that Arsenal (http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/football/arsenal/) would be an ideal destination for the Russian playmaker due to the influence of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.

"The stable situation in the club and the influence of Arsene Wenger to Arsenal and to English football is huge. I think this is an advantage," Dennis Lachter told Sky Sports News.
"If Arsenal go for Arshavin it could be really good for both parties. Arsenal is a very young team and Arshavin is 27.
"There's something about combining young and older players, they propagate attacking football."
The Russia international was one of the stars of Euro 2008 (http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/football/euro/). His two goals helped Guus Hiddink's outsiders reach the semi-finals of the tournament where they fell to tournament winners Spain.
The Zenit St Petersburg player was subject of interest from Spanish giants Barcelona but it now appears he has his sights set on a move to London.
The transfer may be held up until Alexander Hleb (http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/football/alexander-hleb.html) makes his long-awaited move to Barcelona.
The Belarussian midfielder may have hastened his departure after comments he made criticising Wenger and Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas (http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/football/francesc-fabregas.html) appeared in the press last week.
Lachter also suggested that new Barca manager Pep Guardiola's lack of experience could impact on his client's desire to join the Camp Nou giants.
"Guardiola was an excellent player, but no one knows what kind of a manager he is," he said.

Right.. LMFAO feeder-club?! If they don't sell they cannot repay the money spent on building the new stadium?!
If I were you then I would check up on the financial result of Arsenal Holding up to end of last Season before making that kind of statement mate because Arsenal's turnover is three times more then that of Liverpool (Only behind Manchester Utd & Real Madrid by £32 million). Oh and sell to bigger clubs? ahaha you make me laugh David, look below who is the 3rd richest club.
Here is up to 2006/2007.
Arsenal Holdings financial results announced 2006/2007
Arsenal Holdings plc has announced their financial results for the year ending May 31, 2007. A brief overview is shown below. You can download the full document at the bottom of this page.
Group turnover and operating profit at record levels:
- Turnover increased by 46% to £200.8 million (2006 - £137.2 million)
- Group operating profits* increased by 274% to £51.2 million (2006 - £13.7 million)
Match day revenues from the Club’s first season at Emirates Stadium were £90.6 million, representing £3.1 million per game and being more than double the £44.1 million achieved in the previous year at Highbury.
£260 million of bonds with long-dated maturities and a weighted average fixed interest rate of 5.3% were issued in the year to refinance all of the Group’s stadium related debt providing a significant reduction in annual debt service costs for the long term.
The Group’s cash balances rose to £73.9 million (2006 - £35.6 million).91% of the units at “The Stadium - Highbury Square” are already pre-sold. The final completion sales value for all units is expected to comfortably exceed £300 million
Arsène Wenger has extended his contract as Arsenal manager through to 2011 and will become the longest serving manager in the Club’s history.
Arsenal’s move to their new, 60,000-seat stadium at Ashburton Grove has helped the club to emerge as one of Europe’s richest three clubs - and that explains why they are such valued targets for a takeover.
Turnover of £200.8 million for the year ending May 31, 2007 puts Arsenal in the same strata as Manchester United and Real Madrid. Indeed, although the North London club are likely to be behind those two clubs when their results for the same period are released, the size of their match-day revenue and profitability will leave Real in the shade.
In a year’s time, when the cash for the new Premier League television deal is also included, Arsenal and United are likely to be in a league of their own. In contrast, Chelsea and Liverpool will be left far behind unless they move to new stadiums with increased capacities.
The move to the Emirates Stadium is the biggest reason for the change and the 60,000-seat stadium is generating mouthwatering revenues of £3.1million a game, more than double the amount achieved at Highbury.
Another story by The Financial Times on Arsenal (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/article2524393.ece)
2007/2008 Turnover is even higher. The assets, how the club is run profitably pays for the clubs debt which stood at £260 million when that above statement was released back in 2006/2007 Season and it is MUCH lower now. Once 'The Stadium - Highbury Square' is completed (all sold now), thats another £300+ million in profit for Arsenal. Arsenal doesnt have to sell players like you claimed, FACT.
My point PROVEN.

Anyways, latest on the long drawn out saga of Gareth Barry.
Official Aston Villa site
Martin O'Neill has confirmed he held talks with Gareth Barry yesterday and the midfielder again made clear his desire to join Barclays Premier League rivals Liverpool.
England international Barry has not joined Villa out here in Denmark for the Intertoto Cup clash with Odense BK after sustaining a foot injury in training on Wednesday.
O'Neill told www.avfc.co.uk (http://www.avfc.co.uk): "I've spoken to him this week and he reiterated a desire to join Liverpool. So the situation remains unchanged, we're still waiting to hear back from Liverpool."
He made it quite clear in the papers the other day he didn't want to stay, so why bother even meeting? It's not like we've done anything lately that has made him want to stay.

Paulo Bento seems like an interesting prospect...he might be able to persuade Cristi to stay, and he'll plug in a huge scouting network from his homeland and strengthen our already good ties with Sporting (unofficially ofcoz hehe) and what would happen in the real world when a God like Cantona takes the post (he has voiced his interest a few times), or is it just fantasy stuff? He's a true genius..an artiste, with such class. I've got to know a little more about 'the person' in Roy Keano's book. He'll stay true to the traditions of Utd..and bring unparalleled passion and style...the Devil Red runs deep in his veins...the transition after Sir's departure would be seamless..
How about Vinny Jones? he can make Cristi dance with his desert eagle XD

It looks like Manchester united have done better business than us in the transfer market.

20 million pounds for a 24 goal striker-thats us.
32 million pounds for a 14 goal striker-Manu.

Looks like the Keane deal to Liverpool is near completion.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/liverpool/7528735.stm
In my opinion, Liverpool are getting a good striker here who certainly has an eye for goal, think it's a bit of a high price though. Not sure whether he'll be given many chances to start alongside Torres or if he'll be a 'super-sub' kind of player.
What do you Liverpool fans think of this signing??
He's one I'd of love at Villa Park a few years back, that's for sure  (Meh, lost out cause we wouldn't give Wolves the £500,000 extra they wanted on our offer).

At 19 million pounds keane is overpriced.Hopefully he is as good an investment as Torres was.Since crouch's departure ,we needed a good striker and his signing will be ideal for our style of play. This signing may trigger the move of pennant as well since he was bought only for our 4-5-1 strategy.
Moreover there is double whammy to this deal.Us buying keane means that Spurs will try and hold on to Berbatov and thus not allow Manure to strengthen up front.I am now banking on chelsea to splash the cash for Robinho so that Real Madrid can get Ronaldo.

Over priced crap but hey he is joining Liverpool so its perfect for him ;)

He may cost a potential £20.3 million, but I think Liverpool have got a better deal than the one Wenger made by coughing up £10m for Franny Jeffers ;)
Robbie Keane has scored over 100 goals during his 6 seasons at Spurs and has always been a consistent performer.
Unfortunately, transfer prices have inflated, but that's in line with the revenue clubs are getting now, but it'll hopefully be money well spent.
Also, we don't have many players wanting to leave Liverpool, McManaman and Owen the only two I can recall wanting to leave in recent times.
Can't say the shame about Arsenal

This evening, Aston Villa can announce that Gareth Barry will be staying with the club following the interest from Liverpool over recent months.
During discussions in the past few days, a final deadline to conclude this episode was set that all parties were aware of and agreed to. This deadline has now passed and so Gareth will remain with Villa.
Must admit, once Barry said he wanted to move, I thought it would be quickly sorted and pushed through.
Looks like this* (http://xs229.xs.to/xs229/08313/n506999522_440154_6111617.jpg) will be put on hold for now.
* I know I've posted this on El_Nino's profile...but I thought it deserve more exposure

This transfer saga is getting worse then the Ronaldo/Real Madrid one! I'll be glad when it's over, and to be honest, I think he'll be in red before the first game of the season.
On a more positive story for Villa: http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_3891063,00.html

Excellent signing by Villa.
Seen Cuellar play on a few occasions last season, mainly in UEFA Cup and looked an assured and composed player.
At £7.8m it's worth the gamble and could be one of the signings of the summer.

Looked impressive what I saw of him last season, here's hoping he can form a good partnership with Martin Laursen at the back.
Guess this may make Prat Knight 'surplus to requirements'....fancy him at Anfield by any chance?
