View Full Version : Voting privs, again

Recently lost voting privileges. I *always* vote to boot someone out for a proper reason but I'm willing to accept the slight possibility that I made a mistake. Which doesn't happen much because I'm a computerholic.
So considering that I always vote to boot for either rudeness or cheating, and I haven't cleared cache or updated shockwave or anything like that... And I don't have my newbie dot though, thankfully... so
what could have caused this?
And how many games do I need to play to get it back?
Sorry if this is answered somewhere else but I couldn't find it.

Oh, really? Okay thanks sorsie :)
Good to know I'm not just being picked on by an admin or something

Lol, I thought that.. but... a certain someone got their privs back by asking an admin.. but I doubt that'll work for all of us... Because the admins don't love us that much :P
I think we'll just have to wait until they come back.. but I mean if they're not back soon then it might be a good idea to prod an admin for a reason or something... but like... Eh. I'm sure they'll come back.. (Hopefully) they always come back ^_^

I haven't had any problems recently for being made a noob again on iSketch.
You could try looking at this thread (http://www.isketchforum.net/isketch-went-crazy-t2815.html) to see if any of these solutions will help :)

I e-mailed Rob yesterday to see if he could give me some official advice to relay to everyone. Might get a response soon... if not I'll try his other e-mail. I don't wanna bug him though, lol.
I don't think there are any solid-solutions yet, hopefully Rob will reply with some useful info.

Hey.
I've lost and regained my voting privileges a couple of times over the past few weeks. It gets so annoying when I can't vote for people who decide to play iWrite instead of iSketch.
So anyway, I've seen on another iSketch forum that if your /stats say your first log-in was today or yesterday you should leave it and you'll get your votes back. My stats have said that my first log-in was yesterday for 3 days now and I still haven't got my votes back. I played quite a lot yesterday so I thought I would have them back today but still nothing. Anyone got any ideas? Should I try fiddling with my cookies options?

I dunno, I've also been getting that... I think hopefully rob will get back to peter soon about this.. I think it must be happening to quite a few people.. :( I checked my stats recently and said my last log in was two days ago, and my stats showed hours way above that.. it could be linked to why we don't have rights...but even then I tend to play lots of games when I log on.. -sighs-
I think I'd hang tight.. maybe we should prod admins.. :( Lol, I just make sure I have someone with rights with me, and I'm starting to know admin names now.. ish... so I search around and ask them to kick... if need be.
You will need to have played for about 3 weeks to a month to get them back.

I think... the bit where it says when your first visit is, is kind of important... if it's on 'today is your first login' or something like that, then no matter how many hours you accummulate I don't think it's going to give you voting privs. If you try not to clear your cache on firefox it should save your settings, and keep your 'first visit' info.
On IE, I tend to clear my cache every time I close a session, but I noticed that it kept returning me to 'first visit', so I tried not clearing it for a while and isketch started remembering that I'd visited before (and I got my voting privs back).

Edit:
Argh! I know how to get them back, need to e-mail Rob asking his permission if I can tell people though.

I got a friendly admin to restore my privileges.
Umm... something strange that I noticed:
I don't have votes on Firefox again... they come and go, but spend most of their time "gone". It says under "/stats" that my "first visit was today", and that is the reason I don't have votes. However, I do have votes in IE, and according to "/stats" there my first visit was over a hundred days ago, in spite of the fact that I never use IE to play iSk. The rest of my "/stats" are identical in the two browsers (same hours played, same games played etc), so could it be that Firefox just can't read the cookie to say how long I've been there, even though Firefox itself wrote it? I have minimal understanding of cookies, by the way. :) But could IE be nabbing the one which is required, in a way that Firefox can't have it too?
If I feel that I need votes back I'll probably just switch to IE, but for some reason the cursor disappears when I'm drawing in IE which makes it sort of difficult... so I'd rather stick to Firefox, if possible.
(oh, I have looked at my cookies for iSketch under Firefox and there are four different ones there, and they don't get deleted when closing the browser or anything like that)
I dunno why I'm posting this, actually... I just thought I'd mention because I found it a bit strange the way that some cookies seemed to be shared between the two browsers, but the important one was being nabbed away. I could try uninstalling internet explorer, I suppose... dunno if it would do any good though.

Do you by chance have the "precision cursor" selected in settings? The precision cursor makes the little arrow disappear and you get a kind of crosshair drawing tool.

For memory, I do, but what are you replying to? We were never talking about cursor or crosshairs to my knowledge.
AFAIK we were discussing voting privileges: the right to use the "Warning" triangle button above the drawing canvas, used to alert Admins of rulebreakers, and to vote to boot out players

My visits to the site on my laptop is going like a yoyo
I have not touched my history settings nor have I touched my cache or cookies.
It therefore has nothing to do with my browser settings on Firefox as I log on, flick through pages and close the window.
I think that any problems should be attributed to the updates and coding on the site rather than individual users.
As for the reasoning for changing the criteria of the voting system my guess is they did this in response to the player Sahin (a player who kept booting others by changing his IP address since it was not static)
Maybe they should have just raised the voting criteria from 10 games to 100 games as this Sahin often just logged in and out of rooms and will therefore not have gained game completions . .

Maybe your firefox clears your cache and doesn't store cookies automatically, so even if you don't do anything your cookies get cleared/never stored.
On the other hand... I tried allowing cookies on my firefox settings and even though I now have a few iSketch cookie which will expire in various years (from 2009 to 2011), I have yet to see it remember my first visit properly. Hm. I might be doing something wrong, but not sure what.

On the positive side... I am now able to access iSketch for whatever reason, which previous to the updates I was not able to do. Woo.
Maybe they should have just raised the voting criteria from 10 games to 100 games ...
Lol... that would be hell. But it's not a bad idea, IMO.

I think the /stats command is having trouble.
Yesterday it said my first visit was 3 days ago and yet I have played 463 hours on iSketch.
If I'm not mistaken, there are only 72 hours in 3 days xD
I haven't cleared cache or cookies in quite a while and Shockwave or iSketch hasn't been updated as far as I'm aware.

All settings are in order :p
I did allow my history to be deleted every 2 weeks but only the history though I'm doing that manually now.
I think it keeps going around in circles this whole topic without any definitive solutions.
When the updates happened, there wasn't even a notice to warn players about it so I and a loot of other people messed around their settings trying to figure out what the problem was.
No communication from the very top just caused confusion and it seems to be happening again . .

I've got an e-mail response the man himself and this is is the advice he gave...
...general tips like making sure to have the browser configured properly and not running cleaner programs like Cclean or making sure that programs like Norton isn't deleting browser cookies.
There also seems to a Firefox bug that can cause cookies to not be saved
properly:

So there you have it folks, don't let programs and browser plug-ins eat your cookies from isketch.net. Anti-adware programs are famous for this so take caution when running programs like AdAware and performance enhancing programs like CCleaner.
I'd also say always use isketch.net not isketch.org and try adding isketch.net to the trusted sites area of your browser. I'll post up a few video tutorials of how to do this later...
Hmm, I don't think that I have any cleaner programs, and my cookies don't seem to be getting deleted, so I've tried deleting cookies.sqlite as said in the link. Now I'm guessing that it's a 24-hour deal before I found out whether or not it worked.

OK, I know it seems like we keep going around in circles and making no progress whatsoever, but I've just found out about a post flopsy made on simplyisketch concerning the loss of voting privileges and it's quite informative (thank you flopsy for posting it and thank you BB for pointing me to it).
You'll find the post here (http://tinyurl.com/cquh7s) and it contains instructions for IE and Firefox.
In addition, BB says flopsy spoke to Rob at length about this and this is an approved post.
I don't know if it will work, and I'm not gauranteeing anything, I just thought I'd share because even if it doesn't solve everyone's problems, it just might help some people.
