I'm looking to buy a new car... 'The Tank' is getting a bit old and its a bit of a beast, but I haven't a clue what I'm after! Reading your responses should give me a wider range of ideas.

I am currently blatting about in a 1999 model Nissan Pulsar Plus – Series II
1.6 litre - 5 speed manual – Hatchback - Charcoal Grey and I absolutely love it.

Has a great stereo for a base model (CD AM/FM) and power mirrors. Air-con works very well in Australian heat as does the heater. Could use power windows.

Goes exceptionally well and even better when using Premium Unleaded Petrol. You can’t kill them with a stick. Could use an extra gear occasionally – but Nissan fixed that with their new Tiida.

Doesn’t look as cool as the old Pulsar, but it has a 1.8 litre engine and a 6 speed gearbox. Not sure whether they have called it something different in the UK.

Don't buy my vehicle.

It is a gas-guzzling 2002 Ford Explorer in the pukey dark green color. I can't say there is much wrong with it, except for the stuff I have done to it... like the missing right mirror that we lost in Wyoming after hitting a huge deer going 80 mph on the freeway. It also has a big crack up the back of it where it broke during an ultra freeze... never got around to getting that fixed either.

It is always covered with mud or dirt, but I drive on dirt roads everyday. And before you think "evil me" for driving an SUV... I have to, otherwise I'd be stuck in a snow drift or sliding off a mountain (which happened to my husband a few years ago in his pickup, but that is another story).

I get about 24 miles per gallon on the highway and maybe 15 mpg driving in the "city"... lol, which is about 3 hours away!

The nice extra features include a third row seat and optional 4 wheel drive. And it's lasted through all the abuse and is quickly approaching 200,000 miles on it.

I have a 1986 toyota land cruiser FJ62. 4.0L carburated engine, 5 speed manual gearbox with Hi 4wd and Lo 4wd, 127000 kilometers on it. That wonderful antique has taken me everywhere on this god forsaken country, way in and way out, never failed, even in the worst conditions.

I don't have any pics of it handy but it looks like this guy, only cleaner and in good condition, oh and light brown.

Wife has a 1999 toyota corolla, 1.6L fuel injection engine, 4 speed automatic trans and 108000kms on it. It looks like this one, only hers is silver.

I drive a silver ford galaxy.
Great if you want a people carrier, which im sure you dont ches.
Good on petrol, roomy, smooth and comfty to drive.
And if you take the seats out, you can make a bed in the back.
I often do this on night fishing trips with the husband, really great with two double quilts underneath you and 2 double quilts on top.
Really cosy.


But what i really want is a ford escort convertible, well summer is almost here.
And i hate being in a stuffy car in the summer:razz:
Plus i only go with buying fords, im not being ripped off for parts no way

Which was a lovely little car, perfect for a couple or a single person. The only problem we had with it was that it didn't turn corners very well. Something to do with how the engine is placed, apparently... I always suspected Mr. Vik just wasn't turning the wheel enough.

We thought about getting the Audi A3

which was lovely in the test drives, not the roomiest car in the back, but a really nice looking car, very sleek etc - but ultimately we decided to go for a cheaper car with a good engine, rather than an expensive Audi with the only engine we could afford (the worst).

So we ended up with the Mazda 3

which is cheaper, not quite so sleek and pretty, but generally it's a really nice car - plus I know the wife of the cousin of the man who owns the dealership so we know we won't get ripped off during future repairs. The benefits of life in a village!

I have driven Honda's for a good few years now. I currently own a black Honda Civic 1.6 Executive (full leather interior, Climate Control etc). It is exceptionally good for fuel economy and is good to look at too. :biggrin:

I used to also own a CR-V, but as hubby owns a Lexus 400 there seemed little point in having two gas guzzlers (but having said that, the CR-V was more economically than other 4x4's).

Also, take a look at the Accord. They are quite nice too :biggrin:

Specifications: on a full battery (8 hours charge) you can get up to 2 hours of driving, travelling speeds of up to 5 kph. pedal facility available. one or two seater models.
Choice of sounds when you press the horn.
The really good news they also make them in blue.

My friend just got the new MX-5(the picture tuppence posted), he let me drive it and it's much better than the Astra which I drive, lol.

Although, mentioning Astras.... The new Vauxhall range (or "Opel", depending on where you are) are quite nice. I like all of them (except the Corsa, because at the end of the day, it's STILL a Corsa! (no offence))

If you prefer Saloons (and your budget is quite high) then I'd say, get a Monaro. They're still quite rare in England. I think in total, I've seen about 10, since they were released a while back. They were around in Australia long before we'd even heard of them over here. The VXR (sporty) ones look really nice, and they're quick off the line too!

The VXR website (http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/vx/vxr/flash/index.html) will keep you entertained.

If that's a bit much, I'd still say go with the standard Monaro (http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/vx/carsandvans/brandcarhub.do?method=loadBrandHubCarPage&vehicleType=C&scope=S&brandName=monaro) or Astra (http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/vx/carsandvans/brandcarhub.do?method=loadBrandHubCarPage&vehicleType=C&scope=S&brandName=astra).

It's not the best car in the world. Very easy to drive, easy to maneuver, easy to park......though sometimes it would be hard to find your car in a carpark as it's so small!!
But when you hit 50mph.....the car would shake, be very noisy and you go to put it in a higher gear but it already is in 5th gear!!

I wouldn't recommend you get one because then you will be copying me and if i see another fiat around Surrey, i know it's you :razz:

I have a Mazda and even with tons of mileage on the clock, she runs like a dream. Don't let anyone tell you the diesel's give you a rough ride, they're lying. We've had a 3 as a courtesy car and think it's great so good choice Vik! We also had a 2 (I think) and the fuel consumption was horrific.

On the other hand, my mum's just gotten a brand new Opel Astra Diesel Estate and she says it runs like a dream.

The new diesels run more like petrols nowadays, not sure I like it though. I've always had diesels because they're robust but now they just seem wussy.

At present I drive a 'Citroen ZX Aura 1.9TD Estate'. Its a bit of a mouthful, so its just called 'The Tank' due to its ugly corners and styling, and the evil rattling and chugging of a 10yr old diesel. Not sure of the budget really... of course I want to spend as little as possible! Don't think I want to go above £8k really.

Which bikes have you had? The ZX-10 is my 2nd legal bike. My first legal bike was a gixxer600. Not enough P O W E R for my liking...Heheehe...Sold that in November :)

Oh yeah,cars....Umm....How about a Mondeo? They seem pretty reliable and decent these days. Not too exclusive though...

Sticking with Ford, how about the Puma, or Cougar? The Puma isn't to everyones liking, and there are quite a few around.....The Cougar though, more powerful, bigger, generally more sensible and not too many around...

Reasonably cheap too =)

I currently drive a 2005 Toyota Camry, and they are good cars. This will be our third one. I started with a 1986, drove it for 13 years, then traded it for a 1999, which I drove for 6 years, and now this one, which I plan to drive for 10 years. I would rather like to have a Lexxus, though.....or as long as I'm dreaming, how about a Mercedes or a BMW?
