View Full Version : Windows Vista Problem

Okay so I currently am using Windows Vista - and I seem to be getting numerous errors when using iSketch. Before it never seemed to be an issue till I got my laptop with Vista. Usually when I look at another user's bio - it freezes up and then says an error has occured and the internet must restart. This can occur numerous times in a row - even with the slighest movements. It also occurs more frequently when I have another shockwave applet open on a different site - in this case all internet windows are frozen and I have to ctrl + alt +delete.

If anyone knows anything I can do to try and solve this problem, please do respond - I'd greatly appreciate it. I've tried downloading the recent shockwave + flashplayer applets but doesn't seem to be helping - or I already have it downloaded.

Thanks

Hmmm... I've had some problems but not as bad as that!

As you know, Vista comes with various "enhancements" for pen users. I solved 95% of the issues I was having with iSketch by disabling Vista's pen flicks and by changing the pen settings. To do this, go to Control Panel and switch to Classic View. Then go to Pen and Input Devices. On the Pen Options Tab, select "Press and hold", then click on Settings - disable this option by deselecting the checkbox. Do the same thing for "Start Tablet Input Panel". Then go to the Flicks Tab and disable pen flicks.

If you're not using a pen, you might need to change the settings anyway and/or your mouse settings.

I would also suggest that if you're using IE that you change your settings on iSketch so that you don't see player icons - that can cause browser crashes with or without Vista.

I've also found that if I hold the stroke too long in the iSketch draw window the browser seems to disappear altogether so I get a nice view of my desktop. This happens a lot in 5 Strokes so not only can I not see what I'm drawing, I can't see iSketch at all! It rights itself when I let go of the stroke but that rather defeats the object of the exercise in that room.

Having two Shockwave movies open does cause problems, the only answer I've found is to close one down but that's rather irritating.

Vista SP1 is due for release via Windows Update in March so maybe that will fix some of the problems... maybe!

OT on your problem, but i think this is worth putting in here before SP1 is released and countless isketch users are left in the dark because of some unrelated software issue.

Seems Vista SP1 (not released yet) has known issues with several applications, and that could do anything from a browser crash to a full system crash. http://reddevnews.com/news/print.aspx?editorialsid=9566

Hopefully that update will come soon - which in return to hopefully solve my issues
