Strange problem...
Hi guys
I have recently started playing iSketch, its great fun. However I keep getting the same problem each time. Initially I played it in Internet Explorer and found that the computer would just randomly restart. I started playing again with greater success, it lasted about an hour or so..restarted again. On each restart I get a Windows error message prompting me to send an error report. I really have no idea what the problem is, I've tried it in Firefox and have also tried older and newer graphics card drivers to no avail. I can't play with my friends without the fear of my computer just restarting every few minutes, its quite frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

I'm looking into the problem now for you and will hopefully find out why.

Firstly KOG you need to make a note of the exact error message for anyone to investigate.

Okay cheers BB. I'll have a game now. No doubt it will work fine, now that I actually want to replicate the problem

Does your computer only restart/crash when you're trying to play on iSketch?
The more details we can get, the more we can try to help =)

Indeed Fy_Nyte. One second I'll be drawing/guessing the next it restarts. Usually I'm on MSN + webcam with a friend, if thats of any relevance.

Did you manage to make a note of the error message?
By "Indeed" you mean, Yes - it only restarts/crashes when you're on iSketch? Any recent hardware changes? Software changes? New drivers?

I'm still doodling alone in the hope that it will restart so I can note the error message. Yes, it only restarts whilst playing iSketch. The most recent hardware I got is a Geforce 6200, however I've only started playing iSketch since I got that. I'm using the latest nvidia drivers for that and have had no problems. However I did try some older drivers in the hope that would improve things - but no luck. Nothing unusual as far as software goes, I just downloaded the latest shockwave as prompted.

Hey KOG, i'm afraid this might be beyond shockwave, you have some serious software issues, if not hardware issues. Could be your video card, could be your drivers, who knows. My suggestion is to contact the customer support centre for your brand of OS and ask them if they can help you fix it. That or reinstall whichever version of OS you're using.

Could also be your fan... if the processor overheats the machine will shut itself down. As 2.0 said..,. I'd also recommend getting it seen by someone in the know.

A wild shot in the dark here but worth a try as it's simple. Try turning off player icons in your settings and see if that helps at all.

Every chance you could be right about the serious issues but always best to try the simple solutions first

Indeed, the principle of parsimony! Simplest explanation is often the correct one. It's all good.

Are you using XP? Not sure about Vista (haven't got to play with it much yet) but definitely with XP it has automatic reboots in case of 'fatal' errors set as default.
If you right click My Computer and select properties, then select the Advanced tab there is a Startup and Recovery section. If you click settings there is an Automatically restart option which you can clear, then ok out of the boxes. Its not likely to fix the problem you are having, but it should fix the rebooting! And if it does crash your PC at least you should get some kind of information as to why, rather than just a reboot.

Thanks Ches, that could prove helpful. I've not tried for a while, I'll give it a bash tonight and see what happens.

Oh no don't bash the computer - that never works.
Try immersing the keyboard in a mild solution of cloudy ammonia.
