I'd love to make an effort at improving my disgusting drawing.
At present I've only got the use of a mouse and I'm absolutely rubbish at iSketch. ![]() I don't suppose anyone has an old, unused and no longer loved drawing pad thingymajig which they'd like to give away? I'm too poor to buy one and would welcome a second-hand one if anyone has upgraded theirs and the old one is spare. I'll happily pay the postage and am also happy to swap for something like having your CV or some other document proofread and/or formatted. Can you help? |

use a mouse! I use one and will only need tablet if I were to do animation . . Have faith in your mouse You could ask Giovanni (or ask him via myself) though the nib on his pen is completely flat and he was unable to find a replacement pen on it's own, so he may buy a new package altogether . . plus he lives in South Asia at the moment so delivery will be cheaper :p

Graphics tablets can be picked up from a large number of places and they are worth the investment if you're arty, like El. I started with a graphics tablet that cost £40.00 from a local computer shop, it wasn't touch sensitive but that's not really required unless you're into seriously arty stuff. There are also lots that can be picked up on ebay which people have bought and sell off cheap because they don't like them as much as a mouse or just no longer need them.
There's a lot to be said for a mouse on iSketch though... I know a few people who create very nice pictures with them. I'd have been happy to send you my old one except the cable is now dodgy... so it's probably easier if you save your pennies and buy one new. |

Hi guys, a tablet won't actually cost you an arm and a leg, unless looking at a Wacom Cintiq or something. Wacom's are for the pros (the El_Nino's of the forum), I picked up my Genius (amply named..lol jokes :p) for just $50 at a Dick Smith electronic over a year back. I still haven't saved enough dough for a new one. But I don't really wanna sell my current (soon to be succeeded) tablet...since it's my first and I've got emotional attachments to it (all those kickass stick figures and peens I drew with it!ahh!) lol
I hope this helps. pros: cheap, nice big surface area, draws well (high sensitivity), shortcut buttons.....and cheap. cons: they don't provide you with extra nibs...so maybe after a year of doodling you might need to replace the pen. ![]() |

LMFAO well you're not the only one who thinks I use a tablet heh but I'll take that as a compliment Gio baby ;)
Emotional attachments? If I were to offer you a six figure sum, no doubt you'll sell it in a flash <3 my Packard Bell mouse XD

I can't draw with a mouse or a tablet! I find them impossible. *Hugs trusty laptop touchpad*

Thanks for the advice everyone, it's much appreciated and I've learned quite a bit. When I've got some money to spare, I'll have a hunt through eBay and OZtion to see what I can find. Last edited by ProofReader; 06-09-2008 at 01:13 AM. Reason: Add a smilie! lol |

I second going with a mouse!
At least the newbies still go: Do you use a tablet? XD It's worth it, going: "No, it's a mouse" just for their reaction Oh, and for all those who find it impossible to draw with a mouse... it really only takes practice. Just practice on Paintbrush or in the Studio, and you'll soon get the hang of it. It's like practicing handwriting, if you keep practicing the same kind of strokes over and over again, eventually they'll come automatically and with ease. At least, that's how I learned to handle my mouse. Lol, I have a Logitech Cordless Mouse! xD /hug it

Me too! :D But batteries are critical
Mice are fine once you get the hang of them, except when you're tired and your arm just shoots off down the pad

Mice are the way. Those who claim they can't draw with them are quitters Took me 5 solid months to get the feel of it. Long hard work, but it does require time, effort and lots of practice. I wouldn't mind being in possession of a tablet but only if someone wants to buy me one =p But I'm not gonna spend money on something I don't really need cos I trust my good old mouse

Mouse, tablet, doesn't matter to me...all my drawings are gonna be a lil sloppy cause I have kids that like to come and hang on my arm or ask me questions RIGHT when it's my turn to draw. =P

I'm with Sarah there....touchpad is where my beautiful (or at least half-decent) drawings came from. I recently got a desktop computer though that has a mouse and I was rather disgusted at the ahem...."abstract" art that sprouted from my hand. It's gotten a little bit better, but I still don't have my style back.
Having said that, perhaps I should play a little bit more so as to keep practiced up. I've never tried a tablet, but I can't draw worth crap in real life...so I don't think I would be able to create anything worthwhile with a pen. |
